The Guignols of the news had a freedom of speech that we no longer find today in macronie... Bruno Gaccio's gang took advantage of this to cross the red lines which were barely beginning to take shape. In 2003, they highlighted the American army's communications strategy to make the second war in Iraq sexy. Any resemblance to current events surrounding the war in Ukraine is purely coincidental.
To make this war accepted by the whole world, the American army carried out a classic marketing campaign. First, they created the need, then they publicized the product (the war) that corresponds to this need, and finally, they bludgeoned the advertising. The campaign was aimed at the whole family, with “a fun and informative involvement”.
The reality of war is obviously very different from what is shown in the “advertising”. The communications manager admits that "war is blood, tears, shit, kids with their throats slit, mothers crying, meat everywhere, women raped, dogs eating corpses." But he insists on the fact that we should definitely not communicate on this.

In an era where information is abundant but often manipulated, where the media seem to dictate reality, a concept emerges, that of the "Mediaverse", developed by the philosopher Alexis Haupt. In this era of hyper-connectivity where everyone can access a plethora of information in just a few clicks, a crucial question arises: what prevents individuals from freeing themselves from the Mediaverse?
At the heart of the Mediaverse lies a fundamental lack: that of the will to know. The media, controlled by special interests, distort reality and manipulate the masses. In this parallel universe, the real issues are obscured, relegating essential subjects to the background.
In the Mediaverse, sensationalist statements from certain organizations, such as the WHO, are amplified, diverting attention from the real issue. For example, an alarming increase in cancer cases will be attributed to superficial causes such as pollution, alcohol and cigarettes, while deeper, systemic factors are overlooked.
But the Mediaverse goes beyond the simple manipulation of information. It shapes individuals' perception of reality, creating a dichotomy between what is presented by the media and what is experienced in the real world. People trapped in the Mediaverse deny the realities evident before their eyes, preferring to believe what is presented to them by the media.
The psychology of individuals prey to the Mediaverse is intriguing. Their perception of reality is distorted, and they may deny the most blatant facts to adhere to a predefined narrative. Even when hard evidence contradicts media narratives, they choose to ignore it, preferring to live in a comfortable illusion.
It is crucial to recognize the dangers of the Mediaverse. By focusing attention on superficial issues or distorting reality, it distracts from the real issues. For example, concerns about distant political figures can obscure closer, more pressing threats that affect individuals on a daily basis.

Mojeek is one of the most interesting projects in the field of search engines.
And for good reason: it is one of the rare search engines compared to Google, Bing, etc.
Qwant, Ecosia, Duckduckgo… these are meta-search engines. They get their results from Bing. They are not search engines.
Mojeek builds its own search results, with its own robots that search the web.
And on top of that, the company behind it does not collect unnecessary data, does not analyze personal data, behavior, etc. and it is properly financed.
In short, a really good project (I talked about it in a little more detail here)
Obviously, due to its youth and limited means, Mojeek is not as relevant as Google. (and even more on search results in French)

While on Mojeek, you can find them!
It's really cool. It's like discovering a part of the internet that's hidden!
Bing also tends to put results in English, whereas your search is in French (and you have configured the search engine so that it is in French)
Whereas if you set Mojeek to get you results in French, it will really get you results in French.
In fact, it gives the impression that Bing is trying to give you somewhat universal results, which could suit almost everyone, and at the same time exclude anything that is too “small” or “specific”
While Mojeek leaves room for the small and specific.
And that’s really cool!
Because that means you can discover new sites/blogs again with a search engine.

On February 15, 2024, while Ukraine heavily bombed the Russian city of Belgorod (killing several civilians including a baby), France censored around twenty French-speaking Telegram channels for “disinformation”. The timing of this censorship clearly indicates that Paris no longer wants the French to know that Ukraine is deliberately killing civilians with weapons supplied to it by Western countries.
In broad daylight on February 15, 2024, the Ukrainian army fired 18 rockets with Vampire multiple rocket launchers supplied by the Czech Republic (the range of the rockets used was 40 km). Russian anti-aircraft defense shoots down 14 rockets, but four continue their flight towards the city. The result is a real bloodbath. Six people, including a baby, were killed and 17 injured. As several people are in serious condition, the number of deaths could still change.
The targeted targets (a shopping center, a school stadium and other residential areas) are not military in nature, and prove once again that Ukraine is using Western weapons to commit war crimes, facts which disturb the Western narrative, so to prevent people from asking questions, France (along with Germany and Poland) decided to opt for the outright censorship of around twenty French-speaking Telegram channels which were allegedly “Russian disinformation”.

Flawless control
Let's leave aside the legitimate question of who is actually using disinformation. Let us instead turn to the question of why the global risk of disinformation cited by the World Economic Forum is so important for the EU.
The Commission is currently building its new super-authorities to ensure enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA). Last April, the European Center for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT) was established in Seville to help the Commission and national authorities monitor compliance with the DSA. In particular, ECAT will carry out technical tests on algorithmic systems in order to understand how they work, as well as risk assessments linked to platforms and search engines. A cooperation agreement was signed for this purpose with the French center “PEReN” (Digital Regime Expertise Centre).
The European Commission is targeting “unwanted information” on the Internet and is introducing new state and supranational control bodies with essential powers to this end. To ensure the full (and timely) implementation of the DSA governance structure, Member States must designate their digital services coordinators and other national authorities responsible for ensuring compliance by 17 February 2024. It is therefore not surprising that a “risk situation” is required for lagging Member States to act. Indeed, according to the Commission's own information, only two Member States, Italy and Hungary, have to date validly designated their national authorities.
Collapse of justice
Germany is still working on the national implementation of the European Digital Services Act (DSA). The German Bundestag debated this issue for the first time on January 18. According to the federal government's bill, the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) will be responsible for monitoring providers and enforcing the DSA.
In this context, the details that we do not like to talk about publicly are always interesting, and these are the implementation costs: thus, in Germany, the annual costs (!) for the Federal Network Agency are estimated at at least minus 17 million euros (personnel costs, IT, material costs and others). For the federal administration, the annual execution cost increases by around 8 million euros, to which is added a one-off execution cost of around 2,1 million euros.
But that's not all. Anyone who looks at the detailed explanations will find what they are looking for. The German Federal Criminal Police Office expects a significant increase in annual costs of around 44 million euros and one-off costs of around 21 million euros. Indeed, the Federal Criminal Police Office must receive reports concerning suspected cases of punishable content on the Internet and transmit them to the competent criminal prosecution authorities. Due to the significant expansion of mediation services subject to due diligence obligations, the Federal Criminal Police Office expects an increase in annual processing cases from around 6 currently to around 000 (! ).
This is where the cost estimates end – wrongly, because to be correct the additional costs for the prosecution authorities and the judiciary would also have to be calculated. If only part of the estimated 720.000 suspicious cases are prosecuted, German justice risks definitively collapsing. It has in fact been chronically overloaded for years and the number of untreated procedures has reached a record level.

However, the European institutions are not interested in the question of whether and how Member States can bear the costs of implementing the DAS. Nor are they interested in the capacity of law enforcement agencies to process the enormous number of new cases.
On the contrary, only last week the European Parliament made a new step forward in this area: the Council should take a decision by the end of the current legislature to include hate speech and hate crimes among the offenses referred to in Article 83(1) TFEU (referred to as “EU crimes”). The right to freedom of expression must not be used as a shield for the business model of social media platforms aimed at disseminating and amplifying hate speech, those around MEPs said.
The division of society by European institutions continues. Already, the “trusted reporters” provided for in Article 22 of the DSA, that is to say informants who monitor communications on online platforms and who intervene as soon as they suspect an infringement, are being formed. We know that some of them are part of the International Fact Checking Network (IFCN), a network which is itself affiliated with the Poynter Institute. Its funders include – among others – the Democracy Fund, the Lumina Foundation for Education, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Omidyar Network Fund and the Open Society Foundations (OSF).
It cannot be warned and strongly emphasized enough: the EU elites have made the Brussels institutions auxiliaries of the interests of the technostructure. Because what they want to sell us as “control” of the technostructure, they can only achieve with the tools of the technostructure. Member States are overstretching their capacities and resources by implementing this policy – this is particularly true for judicial authorities. But when state power erodes and society divides, great misfortunes are brewing in Europe.

Is it any wonder that the news industry is being hit by a massive wave of layoffs?
Survey after survey shows that Americans have lost trust in the mainstream media and that millions of us have decided to turn to other sources of information. Major media outlets have been losing viewers and readers for years, and now many of the biggest names in the news industry are losing huge sums of money. It was only a matter of time before we saw large-scale layoffs, and now we have.
Of course, it's not just mainstream media that's laying people off. According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the number of layoffs in the United States in 2023 was 98% higher than in 2022…
The pace of job cuts by U.S. employers accelerated in 2023, with the number of layoffs jumping 98% from the previous year.
That's according to a new report released by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, which found that companies planned 721 job cuts last year, a significant increase from the 677 layoffs reported in 363.
The problem could worsen in 2024 as the jobs market continues to weaken in the face of high interest rates and stubborn inflation.
But it is true that the information industry is particularly affected. For example, Time Magazine just announced that it would lay off workers “across multiple departments, including editorial, technology, sales and TIME studios”…

Amid speculation about its future, Paramount Global is carrying out a new wave of staff reductions in February, according to sources who spoke to Deadline. I've heard these reductions will affect hundreds of employees across the company.
For several days, rumors have been circulating about the imminent layoff of around 800 people within Paramount. This follows a WSJ [Wall Street Journal] report in December that the company was considering potentially cutting more than 1000 jobs in early 2024 to cut costs.
Paramount is the parent company of CBS, and so it's likely that CBS' news division is about to get even smaller.
Of course, NBC's news division is shrinking too...
