In a few weeks, the title Rich Men North of Richmond (the US elites are gathered in Washington, 175 km north of Richmond) has shaken up the charts and its people formatted by showbiz.
Its 37 million views on YouTube have propelled it to the top of the billboard, this final calculation which brings together all possible listening, from disc to streaming to radio.
"I sold my soul
I work all day
Overtime
For shit pay
To put my ass down and ruin my life
Coming home and drowning my problemsIt's a fucking shame
what the world has become
For people like me and people like you
I wish I could wake up, and it wasn't true
But it is, oh it is
Living in the new world
With an old soulThose rich north of Richmond
They want to control everything
Know what you're thinking, and what you're doing
And they don't think you know it, but I know you know it...
Because of the rich north of Richmond”
The Miserere or Miserere mei, Deus, according to the incipit of Psalm 50, is a work of polyphony composed around 1638 for the choir of the Sistine Chapel by Gregorio Allegri, chaplain to Pope Urban VIII.
The work is a good illustration of the remarks made by the pianist Étienne Guéreau in his capsule on the collapse of the musical level.
Some date the "end" of music to the early 70s (we will listen to Alain Soral's "music lover" video in reference to Kontre Kulture), others less severe will add one or two decades to make it end in the 90's'. Of course, whatever the periods chosen, everyone will agree that pearls appear here and there, without however calling into question the fact that in general music has nothing more to say.
This statement will probably make people scream. But let's think about it: can we infinitely create something new with a finished material? The twelve semitones of our scale, even if they allow many other things than the major and minor scales (think of the different modes Lydian, Phrygian, Myxolydian, etc.), only offer limited creativity, d all the more so if we restrict ourselves to tonal music. The well-tempered keyboard has a restrained temperament!
