filling of water tables in France

Revolution 2030: Other sourceFrance: Situation of groundwater tables as of April 1, 2024

Revolution 2030: Other source - May 06, 2024

Hexagonal map of France of the groundwater situation as of April 1, 2024.

Map established on April 10, 2024 by the BRGM, using data from the ADES bank acquired until March 31, 2024. Data source: ADES bank (ades.eaufrance.fr) / Hydroportail (hydro.eaufrance.fr) / Fond map © IGN. Data producers and contribution: APRONA, BRGM, Vendée Departmental Council, Landes Departmental Council, Lot Departmental Council, EPTB Vistre Vistrenque, Grandes Causses Regional Natural Park, Mixed Union of Studies and Works of Astien ( SMETA), Joint Union for the protection and management of groundwater in the Roussillon plain (SMNPR).

This map presents the global indicators reflecting the average fluctuations of the water tables. They are established from point indicators recorded at groundwater level monitoring points (piezometers).

The "Water table level" indicator compares the current month with the same months of the entire chronicle, i.e. at least 15 years of data, and up to more than 100 years. It is divided into 7 classes, from the lowest level (in red) to the highest level (in dark blue).

The gray areas correspond to sectors without free water tables, that is to say with an impermeable or semi-permeable layer above the water table, and/or sectors with a very low density of monitoring points. The latter case particularly concerns mountainous areas whose water tables are small and heterogeneous.

The “Change in levels” indicator reflects the variation in the water level for the past month compared to the two previous months (stable, upward or downward).

These global indicators reflect general situations and trends and do not take into account possible local disparities.

Mini dams in the Alps

ReporterreMini dams: Alpine torrents sacrificed to produce energy

Reporterre - March 01, 2024

The deployment of small hydroelectric plants on Alpine torrents is growing according to data collected by Reporterre. Many mayors are delighted but biodiversity is a problem.

It was believed that the Alpine rivers were already well corseted with dams and turbines. But the rush for blue gold continues in the mountains, at the risk of causing irreversible damage to the last wild waterways of the Alps. “There has been a shift over the last twenty years,” says David Doucente, fish engineer for the Hautes-Alpes fishermen’s federation. Until the 2000s, there were a few hydroelectric power stations in the Alps, but these projects were supervised by EDF with measured developments. Since then, many private operators have filed applications and we have started to notice overexploitation of the waterways. »

Neither state services nor the professional union France Hydro Electricité have precise figures on this deployment. Their inventory had, however, already been carried out by a study engineer in 2021 in the departments of Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Alpes-Maritimes and Hautes-Alpes. As part of his dissertation written in the EcoFlows laboratory at the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRAe), Nils Dumarski listed the power plants installed since 1900 whose power is less than 10 kilowatts. Of the 000 hydroelectric dams recorded, 323 were erected between 124 and 2000, while only 2020 were built between 116 and 1950. “The pace of installation of micro hydroelectric power plants in the four departments studied is accelerating, particularly since the 2000s. “This dynamic is particularly important above 2000 meters,” he notes.

An increase that is corroborated by Reporterre data. Thanks to the national register of electricity production and storage installations, we have identified 347 small active dams in the Alps, of which at least 167 have been created or renovated over the last twenty years.
The State is banking on hydroelectricity

This deployment is explained by the State's desire to increase hydroelectricity in its energy mix. To achieve this, EDF has purchased its production at a preferential rate since 2007. Since 2016, France has also been conducting calls for tenders for the operation of new small hydroelectric power plants, which guaranteed the winners additional remuneration. These financial incentives have promoted the professionalization of the sector and the multiplication of projects.

Alas, most French rivers are “already widely exploited and present few additional opportunities in the long term,” underlines the Energy Futures 2050 report from the high-voltage electricity transmission network manager RTE.

fluoride trial in drinking water

The DefenderLandmark Fluoride Trial: Fluoridation Violates Informed Consent

The Defender - Feb 08, 2024

Fluoride should be banned from drinking water and the U.S. government should warn people — especially pregnant women — about the serious health risks of drinking fluoridated water, attorney Michael Connett told the journalist Kim Iversen.

Mr. Connett is lead plaintiff counsel in a landmark federal lawsuit over the neurotoxicity of water fluoridation, brought against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The lawsuit, which resumed today after a four-year hiatus, seeks to ban the addition of fluoride to water.

The federal court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco set aside nine days for testimony and cross-examination of experts and fact witnesses.

On yesterday's episode of the “Kim Iversen Show,” Mr. Connett discussed the case and explained why it is so important. He said :

“We now have data – high-quality data funded by the NIH [National Institutes of Health] – that links maternal fluoride exposure to IQ deficits… that's really what we're all about in justice.

The Court has only one question to ask, and that is: “Does fluoridation present an unreasonable risk of neurodevelopmental effects? If the court decides that this is the case, then the EPA will be mandated by law to take action to address this risk.

Although the court cannot tell the EPA how to address the risk, the EPA has the authority under the Toxic Substances Control Act to ban fluoridation.

“If we win,” Mr. Connett said, “and if EPA does what logic seems to dictate – namely whether its obligation is to eliminate the risk posed by fluoridation chemicals – then the obvious way to “to achieve this is to prohibit this practice”.

Currently, the choice of water fluoridation rests with states and local governments. But if the EPA bans this practice, “no municipality, even if it wishes, will be able to fluoridate its water because the EPA will be the highest authority on the matter”.

Today, more than 200 million Americans in thousands of communities drink fluoridated water.

Most major cities, including Los Angeles, where Kim Iversen lives, fluoridate their water. “I definitely don’t want to drink fluoride anymore,” Ms. Iversen said.

On January 13, Children's Health Defense (CHD) released a documentary titled “Fluoride on Trial: The Censored Science on Fluoride and Your Health,” in which Michael Connett and CHD President Mary Holland discuss the suppression of scientific research revealing the toxic effects of fluoride, particularly on children.

Mr Connett also discussed this deletion with Ms Iversen.

For example, when the National Toxicology Program (NTP) conducted a systematic review and concluded in its 1573-page report that 64 of 72 studies showed a link between fluoride and lower IQ, dental officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the NIH's National Institute of Facial Dental and Cranial Research pressured the U.S. Department of Human Services' Assistant Secretary for Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, to prevent the report's release.

Ms. Levine asked the NPT not to release the report, but to put it on hold and subject it to further review.

“You don’t even have to swallow it”

Although other chemicals like chlorine are added to public water for water treatment purposes, fluoride is the only chemical added for medical purposes – in this case, to prevent tooth decay in people who drink the water, Mr. Connett said.

Water fluoridation is “a program born in the United States,” he told Ms. Iversen. Europe explored the idea of adding fluoride to water to prevent cavities, but decided against it because it violates people's right to informed consent.

He said :

“Europe said you shouldn't add medicine to the water because it takes away the individual's right to make their own health decisions, to give informed consent. And in Europe, as in the United States, there are certainly a lot of fluoridated products on the shelves, like toothpaste, that anyone can buy at the pharmacy or grocery store.”

Connett said research shows fluoride can be used to prevent tooth decay by applying it to teeth. “There is no need to swallow it.”

Could other substances be added to our water?

rainwater - decree

New WorldFrance: Towards a ban on the use of rainwater for individuals?

New World - Oct 04, 2023

Does the government want to ban the use of rainwater in homes and vegetable gardens?

The decree of August 29, 2023 “relating to the uses and conditions of use of rainwater and treated wastewater” has been a source of controversy. The way it was written suggests that rainwater will not be allowed in our homes or to water our gardens. The government denies this.

On September 24, 2023, Pierre L'écoleau and Benjamin Vialan were both guests of a program offered by the media L'ArchiPelle which highlights experts and initiatives linked to autonomy and resilience. They discussed their concerns regarding the decree of August 29, 2023. The latter, dedicated to the use of non-domestic water, contains two articles that are disconcerting to say the least.

While this text of law concerns the use of treated wastewater and rainwater, articles R. 211-126 and 127 indicate that the use of this water "is not possible" in "premises intended for public use". 'habitation', nor for 'watering the green spaces of buildings'. Comments which generated several alarming contents on the networks.

Google water consumption sinkhole

The Free ThinkerGoogle consumed nearly 30 million m³ of drinking water in 2022!

The Free Thinker - August 25, 2023

In four years, its consumption has increased by 82%!

It is not beautiful the fight against global warming with the GAFAM! The protection of the most precious resource of the earth, that is to say water, which is balanced by billions of liters to cool their “data centers”! You will then be explained that it is the fact of watering your garden or filling the swimming pool that destroys the planet! 30 million m³ of drinking water in one year for Google alone, what about the other giants in the sector?

drinking water leaks

The Free ThinkerStop drinking water leaks in France!

The Free Thinker - Jul 08, 2023

Drinking water losses in our country are considerable, around 1 liter out of 5, or 1 billion m3 per year!

Instead of destroying the French economy and its industry by putting in place dangerous and useless restrictions under the pretext of saving the climate, it would be much more interesting to invest a few billion in the repair of the water distribution networks in order to to recover this billion m3 of drinking water which disappears each year in leaks. This money, moreover, would go to French employees by reducing unemployment, unlike the billions of euros given to Big Pharma which end up in tax havens for risky purulent injections with catastrophic adverse effects.

water-intensive megacenters

France SoirThe mega data center will require 600 million liters of water per year

France Evening - May 27, 2023

Zuckerberg's mega data center in Spain will require 600 million liters of water per year

The development by Meta of a large data center in the region of Toledo (Castilla-la-Mancha), is causing concern because of its estimated consumption of more than 600 million liters of drinking water in a region where the water is scarce.

Meta, the conglomerate run by Mark Zuckerberg and on which Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram depend, will install its largest data processing center in Europe in the province of Toledo.

It will be, more precisely, in Talavera de la Reina, the ancient capital of ceramics which today, despite its proximity to Madrid, is going through a period of social, economic and demographic crisis.

Economic opportunity...

The regional government of Castile-La Mancha decided a few weeks ago to continue the Meta Data Center Campus project, highlighting its impact on the territory - more than 1 jobs and 000 highly qualified direct jobs - but ignoring the fact that the infrastructure will consume more than 250 million liters of drinking water per year.

As El País explains, the “total” consumption, including “non-potable” water, could reach “120 liters per second in the data center and 33 liters per second” in the rest of the facilities. At this rate, we are talking about 4,8 billion liters of water per year. However, the company has not officially confirmed these estimates.

Meta currently has three such facilities in Sweden, Denmark and Ireland. A few months ago, a survey by the Noordhollands Dagblab media showed that Microsoft's data center in the Netherlands would consume 84 million liters of water in 2021, while the company had announced a consumption of 12 to 20 million. liters.

...but deleterious environmental impact?

This “under-declaration” is not a first. A similar pattern occurred in the Netherlands. The Middenmeer data storage and information centers, from Microsoft, consumed up to seven times more water than had been forecast when the project was launched.

Technically, water is used in abundance within data centers in order to reduce the temperature of servers or other electronic installations present (computers, storage bays, etc.).

rainwater recovery

Jacob's ladderCollecting rainwater: the huge fine you risk

Jacob's Ladder - May 23, 2023

We announce rain at your place, and you want to take the opportunity to recover it? Be careful: some mistakes in this area can cost you dearly.

When it rains a lot, owning a rainwater collector is an excellent way to save money on a daily basis... And to adopt a more ecological way of life. However, there are some prohibitions in this area in France. Follow the guide to avoid missteps... and fines.

Collecting rainwater: the conditions to be respected

Recovering and reusing rainwater is permitted, but under certain conditions. To do this, you can use a classic rainwater collector, or a DIY system. But your installation must respect the following rules:

The recovered water must have flowed over a roof that is not accessible on a daily basis
The roof must not contain asbestos or lead
It must be stored in an above-ground or buried tank.
It is not allowed to use antifreeze product in the storage tank
Your rainwater network must not be connected to the drinking water network.
In your house, you cannot have both drinking water taps and rainwater taps. Rainwater taps must also be lockable.
A sheet attesting to the conformity of your installation must be drawn up by the person responsible for its commissioning.

Reusing rainwater: permitted and prohibited uses

We don't run out of water

The Media in 4-4-2Idriss Aberkane: “No, we don't lack drinking water! »

The Media in 4-4-2 - May 09, 2023

The world consumes just under 60% of the Amazon's volume of fresh water each year.

At a time when frenzied Malthusianism wants to confiscate all our freedoms, drastically limit births, confine us to these atrocious "15-minute towns", it had become absolutely vital to contradict this apocalyptic discourse with a little exact science. No, we are not short of drinking water. Admittedly, its distribution in the world is not good, but one thing that can be distributed easily from Alaska to Africa and from Lake Baikal to Tierra del Fuego is intelligence and knowledge.

If Macronie praised the apocalyptic project of a new rationing of fresh water (in a France which has never lacked water, neither for its population nor for its agriculture nor for its industry), we must remember that projects exist which could generate the flow of several large rivers per year, and no, definitely, we are not lacking in fresh water, we are only lacking in common sense.

ending the myths about water

The Media in 4-4-2The Naturopath Doria: Deconstructing the myths about water

The Media in 4-4-2 - May 08, 2023

Have you ever heard this quote "Water is more important by what it takes away than by what it brings" by Louis-Claude Vincent?

Remember that our body is made up of 70% water (up to 90% when we are born). So you can imagine the importance of the quality of our water.
Besides, if you can fast for several weeks, you can only last 8 days without water. Blue gold is indeed a vital element.
The unsafe tap water scandal

People keep telling us that we are very lucky to have so-called “drinking” water at hand. How lucky yes! If like me, you want to check the water quality in your area, click here. In the 44 (Loire-Atlantique), according to the search engine, the water quality is good. And yet, pesticides and derivatives number 300, unlike a lower average in France, which is 200.
It begins well.
In recent years, the scandal swells and becomes so huge that it manages to break through in some media. We are served a soup based on fluorine, heavy metals, drug residues (hello the pill) nitrates, pesticides, chlorine and other joys. If you still drink tap water daily without filtering it: good luck!
The myth of the Brita carafe has just been shattered? Don't worry, it's for the best!

The bottled water business

Bottled water is about 5 billion euros per year, just that!
On the market, well-known giants:
– Nestle (Vittel, San Pellegrino, Contrex)
– Danone (Evian, Volvic, Badoit)
– Cristalline (the cheapest, 11 cents per litre)
