Daskalakis is known for his efforts in the world of HIV and other illnesses affecting the LGBTQ+ community, having attended New York University medical school, followed by residency, fellowship, and master's additional to Harvard Medical School.
Daskalakis' social media presence is unsettling to say the least. Together with his partner Michael MacNeal, they launched a "gothic" gym in New York, which was originally part of the famous gym chain Equinox, before becoming a full-fledged brand based in a former box of gay night which had itself taken over a former church in Manhattan: Monster Cycle.
Monster Cycle's social media pages are full of references to Satanism, the Devil, flaming crosses, and pentagrams, among other things. While the gym received rave coverage from The New York Times (below) in 2014, its review of 'SweatConcierge' referred to 'alarming' imagery and 'terrifying' co-ed locker rooms.
