Michel Onfray has defended for more than 25 years the idea that Jesus of Nazareth did not have a historical existence and that Christianity is a myth. However, Matthieu Lavagna explains that this theory is unfounded and that there are numerous sources, both Christian and non-Christian, which mention the existence of Christ in the first two centuries.

Among non-Christian sources, the young philosopher cites Flavius ​​Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, Lucian of Samosata, Pliny the Younger, Galen, the Babylonian Talmud, Celsus and Mara bar Serapion. In addition to these sources, there are also Christian sources, such as the Gospels, the Epistles of Paul, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Epistles of Peter and James, which mention the existence of Jesus.

Matthew Lavagna points out that even the Jews, who were the enemies of Christians, did not question the existence of Christ. He also explains that historical sources mentioning Jesus far outnumber those mentioning other historical figures of the time, such as Julius Caesar.
